Young Thug has seemingly shaded fellow rapper Gunna. On July 7, 2025, he tweeted a lyric from his song, Money On Money.

"If u a rapper and u a rat, u gotta just go gospel twin," he wrote.

When internet personality DJ Akademiks responded and said fans don't care as most rappers snitch, and they make the "best music." The rapper replied, saying he agreed with the statement, except for the part about the best music.

"Somebody gotta tell Young Thug that he's the last rapper on earth who cares who SNITCHING. Lowkey half these ni****s telling and the ones telling make the best music. Fans don't give af," DJ Akademiks wrote.

For the unversed, Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, was arrested in May 2022 along with 27 others. The rapper was accused of being the leader of Young Slime Life, a street gang. Multiple charges were placed on the men, along with violation of Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Gunna, who was also signed under Williams' label, turned himself in when an arrest warrant was released. Gunna took the Alford Plea, maintaining his innocence and acknowledging the prosecutors' evidence. He pleaded guilty to one charge of racketeering and was released from prison in December 2022.

The rapper received massive backlash from the rap community and from netizens who called him out for allegedly being a "snitch."

Young Thug was released from prison in October 2024. His five-year prison sentence was commuted to time served, and after his release, he was placed on 15 years of probation, with 20 years of prison if the probation was violated.

Young Thug was asked about his friendship with Gunna in a recent interview

In April 2025, Young Thug gave an interview with GQ magazine, his first interview since his release from prison. The interviewer asked him about the status of his friendship with labelmate Gunna. Williams refused to answer and replied that everyone was curious about the matter, and he didn't know.

While discussing music, the rapper shared that he never stopped listening to music during the trial. Williams also stated that he felt that he was "too big" for prison, and God put him through that for a reason. While the rapper still wondered about God's purpose, he admitted that he was being "hardheaded," saying he loved people until they betrayed him.

The rapper also discussed his old lyrics, stating that they were used against him in the trial. However, he claimed that he had rapped about gangs a few times, and mostly rapped about other things. Williams said that he would "dumb down" his lyrics in the future because kids listen to them.

"Not because of the law. More so just like realistically kids actually listen to us. Like, all right, we got to dumb it down some. I listen to new rappers now and I'm like, 'My kid can't listen to that.' So I'd be like, Damn. So contradictory," the rapper stated.

Young Thug's upcoming album, UY Scuti, will feature his girlfriend and singer Mariah the Scientist, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Future, and Ken Carson. The release date of the album hasn't been announced.
