After Hammer's alleged disturbing Instagram DMs involving fantasies of rape, BDSM and cannibalism were revealed two weeks ago, the actor dropped out of Jennifer Lopez comedy movie Shotgun Wedding and the Sam Esmail Watergate limited series Gaslit. In revealing Hammer's Gaslit exit, Deadline reported that his departure had nothing to do with the Instagram controversy and was due to a scheduling conflict with the Paramount+ making of The Godfather series The Offer, in which he would play the film's Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy. Today Variety reported that Hammer has dropped out of The Offer. His casting was announced early last month. "The search is now on for a new series lead," reports Variety's Joe Otterson, adding: "Reps for Hammer and Paramount did not immediately respond to Variety‘s for comment. This post will be updated should they respond." When news first broke about the social media DMs, Hammer released a statement saying: "I’m not responding to these bullsh*t claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”
