NBC News ushered in the era of making network news music matter when it enlisted Oscar-winning Star Wars composer John Williams to write what became NBC Nightly News theme. Composer Michael Karp has since written music for NBC News for three decades, including music for Dateline, the Iraq War and Ronald Reagan’s state funeral. “It’s really an emotional trigger,” Karp tells The Washington Post. “It really evokes something more primal in us.”
