“I didn’t like the process. I think the process of selection was fractured,” Jay-Z said at a press conference formally announcing his partnership with the NFL. “Take four of us and everybody thinks they’re playing the Super Bowl. It’s almost like this interview process. So if I could pick one, three other people are upset. That’s not even good math. After three years nine people are upset and three people are going to play. I just think the process could’ve been more definite.” Jay-Z was also asked if a Super Bowl halftime artist should have ties to the Super Bowl city. (The next two Super Bowls are in Miami and Tampa, respectively.) "We had this conversation, you can't go to a city, plop a show down and then leave," says Jay-Z. "Like, at least speak to the community. Speak to the guys that's on the ground organizing things and trying to make things better, in that sort of way."
