Days of Our Lives has aired on NBC for nearly six decades, but it was announced Wednesday that the daytime soap will soon be a Peacock original.
The network's longest-running series already releases past episodes on Peacock. The shift to move Days of Our Lives to the streamer exclusively is set to occur on September 12.
"With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show's loyal fanbase on streaming," said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.
Peacock is currently home to the Days of Our Lives spinoff Beyond Salem and the holiday-themed A Very Salem Christmas, both of which premiered exclusively on the streamer last year.
Days is the last of NBC's daytime soaps. In their late 20th century heyday, there were more than a dozen soaps across the three broadcast networks. With Days' move to streaming, only three will remain — The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, both on CBS, and ABC's General Hospital.
NBC says it will fill Days of Our Lives' time slot with a new NBC News-produced series titled NBC News Daily, which will also stream on Peacock.
