Somehow Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor is going to meet Mike Baxter in the upcoming ninth and final season of Last Man Standing.

This new preview shows us that initial meeting between Tim Allen's current LMS character and his "Tool Time" host from his former hit series Home Improvement, which ran from 1991 to 1999. It also shows that Baxter finds Taylor's grunting gimmick "a little annoying." 

There's a callback to another earlier Allen role at the beginning of the preview, when Baxter shows off his pandemic beard and implies that he could play Santa Claus, which of course is something Allen did in The Santa Clause films.

Last Man Standing returns for its final season on Sunday, January 3, on FOX.
