After a week of intense political debates, the women of The View embraced Feel Good Friday with a morning of lighthearted Hot Topics. During a discussion about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's feud with Jimmy Kimmel, Joy Behar sent things off the rails with a series of bizarre comments, from asking guest co-host LeAnn Rimes if she's "ever been assaulted" while performing, to calling out Greene's "mustache."
After recapping the Greene-Kimmel spat, Behar offered her perspective on comedians taking aim at politicians. "It's interesting. She is a joke, and yet she can't take a joke," said today's fill-in moderator, earning a loud round of applause from the audience.
Sara Haines was first to speak, and she got the WTF comment ball rolling by saying, "Comedy, to me, is like life's elixir." She tried to make an argument about how Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars "opened up the door to, a joke's bad and we can have physical altercations," but it didn't quite land, and Ana Navarro quickly cut in.
"This is the same Marjorie Taylor Greene who basically harassed a teenager who had just survived a mass shooting. This is the same Marjorie Taylor Greene who accosted and harassed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. So really, sweetheart, you can dish it out, but you can't take it? I think in the right-wing culture they call people like you 'snowflakes.'"
Rather than address Navarro's point, Behar threw the discussion to Rimes in the most unexpected way possible: "LeAnn, have you ever been assaulted onstage?" she asked. Rimes was polite, saying that she's "never been assaulted onstage," but was recently booed by a Florida audience for saying she lived in California. "They just don't happen to like Californians, but that was okay, because we went back and talked about the fact that I was from Mississippi, and we were all good," she recalled. "So they were friends again."
As anyone who has ever watched The View knows, Behar couldn't let the discussion end without throwing in a personal anecdote. The longtime co-host launched into a story about how Greene once took a comment she made about wearing masks in crowded places and used it to rile up her conservative base, tweeting, "I think America would like to see duct tape around her mouth."
"Now, I don't think that that's violent," Behar said of Greene's tweet. "I don't think it's funny. It's kind of lame. She could do better than that. But I could get upset by something like that, couldn't I?"
"Maybe that's how they wax where she's from," said Navarro, to another round of applause. "Well, she certainly looks like she has a mustache, but I don't really know," replied Behar.
The View's audience laughed awkwardly, but the co-hosts quickly shut down Behar. "Oh, Joy," said Navarro, as Haines insisted, "You're better than that."
"I use Nair myself," concluded Behar, as the show's music queued up. "So who am I to talk?"
Whoever had life's elixir, snowflakes, onstage assault, and Nair on your bingo card, please come collect your prize!
