Meghan McCain Drags Biden's Abortion Stance: 'If You Want to Murder a Little Bit, It's Fine?'

Despite insisting that she doesn't "proselytize" her anti-abortion views, Meghan McCain proceeded to do just that Monday morning on The View during a lengthy monologue about Catholic bishops plans to rebuke President Biden. McCain was clear that she believes Biden is "doing grave spiritual harm to himself and to this country" by supporting the abortion rights (he is not personally pro-choice, but has said that he supports others' right to do so), and she accused him of flip-flopping on the issue for political gain. "It's like saying, 'I'm personally opposed to murder, but if you want to murder a little bit, it's fine because it's not my problem," said the conservative co-host. "He's walking a very fine line here."

Late last week, a group of American bishops put forth a plan to deny Biden communion because of his support for abortion rights. The issue became a focal point of weekend political discussion, and by Monday, it made its way to The View, where it opened Hot Topics for the week. While Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin, who is a religious Catholic, were clear that this is a "political issue" that threatens to undermine our separation of church and state, McCain disagreed, and she used her time to ding Biden for having political beliefs inconsistent with those of his religion.

"When it comes to the separation of church and state, the onus is on the government, not the church," said McCain, adding that "the church is always going to try and impede" and "influence" politics. "Everyone's spiritual journey and relationship with God and their church is their own personal journey, and I don't try to proselytize my spirituality on other people, but if you are a devout Catholic, as President Biden claims to be, abortion is a cardinal sin that can do deep spiritual harm to you."

The conservative co-host said that Biden was supportive of the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortion, until he announced his presidential run in 2019, when he came out against it. "If he's for the federal funding of abortion — and I know the women on this show disagree with me — but as far as I'm concerned, abortion is murder, and that means the government funding of killing of the unborn," she said. "We have to, as pro-lifers, fight for the rights of the unborn. And that's a doctrine as old as the Catholic Church itself."

"His political stance, by the way, is he's 'personally opposed to abortion but doesn't feel that he has the right to impose this view on the rest of the country.' For someone who claims to be pro-life, I never understand this argument," continued McCain. "Ultimately, all of these issues are literally life and death for Catholics, for devout Christians."

"He's going to have to, ultimately, talk to his creator when the time comes, as we all do, and reconcile his politics with his personal faith," she concluded. "I believe that he's doing grave spiritual harm to himself and harm to this country."

McCain's co-hosts, understandably, declined to engage, although Whoopi did hit her with a classic "Okay?" before throwing the discussion to Sara Haines. Who doesn't love a good Whoopi reaction moment?
