Ex-Trumper Stephanie Grisham Admits She'd Vote Democrat Against an 'Extremist' Republican

Stephanie Grisham's transformation from Trump press secretary to never-Trump Republican is officially complete. Tuesday morning on The View, Grisham admitted she would "vote down-ballot Democrat" if faced with an "extremist" Republican candidate who would be harmful to the country at large. "That's one convert!" replied a beaming Joy Behar. "One at a time."

The View kicked off Tuesday's show with a preview of today's primary elections, and Grisham, this week's guest co-host, joined the ladies in imploring viewers to get out and vote. "For me, six months ago, all I cared about was Trump, don't let him be reelected. It's now down-ballot races that are very important for this kind of message," Grisham said of the GOP's embrace of extremism. "We've got secretaries of state, governors, and then going into Congress as well — [if] they get voted in, it won't matter if Donald Trump is president or not."

"I want people to understand how important local races are," she continued, as Whoopi Goldberg invited her to stress the point for viewers. "Important local races – please! Vote country over party pay attention to who is going to do what."

Sensing an opportunity, Behar asked Grisham if she "would vote Democrat now" that she's "disgruntled" about Trump and the state of the Republican Party. "If it came down to an extremist person who was pushing—" said Grisham. "It will come down to that," interrupted Behar.

"You're asking me!" said Grisham. "So, if it were me, and I had an extremist candidate that was going to ruin this country, I would vote down-ballot Democrat."

"You heard it here, ladies and gentleman!" said Behar, as the audience gave both ladies a round of applause.

Elsewhere on The View... Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin gave Sara Haines a history lesson on the electoral college when they reminded her that the country's voting process is "based in slavery."

"One vote for each person," said Behar, as she advocated for abolishing the electoral college. When Haines pushed back, saying that "the spirit" of the electoral college gives rural, less-populous areas "input in national elections," Hostin gave her a reality check, saying, "The spirit of the electoral college is that it was founded in slavery!"
