Sunny Hostin Gets Emotional Discussing Her False COVID Test as The View Apologizes for Friday's Chaos

After Friday's dramatic show, during which Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro tested positive for COVID-19 and were pulled off the air just seconds before Vice President Kamala Harris was set to join the panel, The View co-hosts stepped in to clarify what really went down in the disastrous moment. Joy Behar clarified that both Hostin and Navarro received false positives, as both tested negative multiple times throughout the weekend, and the two opened up about their difficult weekends, which included legitimate concerns about their families and a brief Twitter feud with Donald Trump Jr.

The View had no choice but to look inwards on Monday morning with a Hot Topics segment described as a "Friday Re-View." Behar opened the segment by thanking Harris' team for "still doing an interview with us under extraordinary circumstances," before offering an update on her co-hosts. "We were all given numerous, numerous COVID tests," she said. "I am thrilled to report that Sunny and Ana's Friday results turned out to be false positives, and everyone is safe, healthy, and COVID free. No one's got it. It was a mistake of some sort."

Behar then turned things over to executive producer Brian Teta, who apologized to viewers for the "awkward television" he'd like to forget. "I really want to apologize to Sunny and Ana, because in the midst of all this chaos, they were put in this position where they had this information put out on television, and then to make it even worse, it turned out not to be true," he said. "It was unfortunate that mistakes were made, but I can confidently say that we have very vigorous safety protocols. Everyone is regularly tested. I'm just so relieved that you guys are healthy, that everyone is healthy, and nobody was ever in danger."

Hostin agreed with Teta, and she thanked fans for the "outpouring of love and support" she received after Friday's show. "But it was really uncomfortable for my results to be released publicly before I even knew what was going on, before they were verified, before I was tested again and again. There are real life ramifications when things like that happen," she said. "My husband is a surgeon, as everyone knows, and he was in the operating room and had to be pulled out of the operating room because god forbid he's COVID positive. My child's school was notified, and she had to be pulled out ... These are the sorts of real life things that were happening. And for me, it was particularly triggering because not too long ago, I delivered the eulogy at my in-laws' funeral. So you can imagine how I felt thinking I could be COVID-positive, and my family could experience another loss — a loss that I don't think my husband could handle."

"I always was assured by the fact that I'm fully vaccinated," continued Hostin. "Even if I were COVID-positive, I was convinced I'd likely be okay. If this type of thing were to happen to me, Ana Navarro is the best person to have it happen with you. Because her charm and her wit and her sense of humor really got me through it."

Still, concluded Hostin, there were plenty of people who spewed "hatred" at her over the weekend, and to them, she has a message: "When you meet your maker, you'll have to figure that out with them."

Navarro added that she was "flabbergasted" when she got her results, as she'd just spent the day before with Harris' family ("I'm thinking I'm Typhoid Mary," she joked). "I will tell my Latino and Black Twitter, pipe down folks. This is not a conspiracy that they brought out Sunny and me."

"And then there was this tweet from Jr. — Donald Trump Jr," continued Navarro. "Apparently he thought it was appropriate to take advantage of the false news that I had COVID to take a shot at my weight. Babe, I take a shot at my weight every day. Unlike you, I have a mirror, and I know I have a weight issue."

"Has he seen his father on the golf course?" interrupted Behar. The joke earned a big laugh from the audience, but it didn't derail Navarro, whose voice began to rise as she took down Don Jr. "I know that when you are a dimwit with no skill or talent or significant accomplishments, living off your father's fame and name and fortune, you've gotta draw attention to yourself. But if you want to have a conversation about COVID and obesity, you could've had it last October, when your elderly, obese father had it."

"So, it's a legitimate conversation to have, and fortunately for you, you've got someone in your family who you can call and discuss this with," she continued. "Because imagine having a father whose butt is the size of a studio apartment in New Jersey, and you've got the gall to pick on me?!"
