Premiering on MGM+ on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, the fourth season of "Godfather of Harlem" will run every Sunday until June 22, 2025, with ten new episodes. According to MGM+'s official series renewal last year, filming will go until the end of 2024; a teaser will appear in January 2025. Returning cast members include Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Michael Raymond James, Whoopi Goldberg, Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, and Forest Whitaker, who was nominated for an Emmy for his performance as crime lord Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson.
This season's storyline explores the underbelly of Harlem, the Black Panther Party, and the life of young Frank Lucas with a new original soundtrack spearheaded by Swizz Beatz and starring the lead song "Danger Danger" by Jadakiss, Swizz Beatz, and Pusha T. The music gives the plot more interest.
Filming in the Big Apple began not long as MGM+ prolonged "Godfather of Harlem" for a fourth season in November 2023. Forest Whitaker and Romeo Flynn respectively echoed their roles as Bumpy Johnson and Frank Lucas in an official teaser trailer published by MGM+ in January 2025, exposing the return date. The new chapter of the historical crime drama is being helmed by showrunner Chris Brancato, executive producers John Ridley and Paul Eckstein.
Apart from MGM+, live TV bundles on Sling TV, Fubo, YouTube TV, Philo, and DirecTV Stream will have the show in the US. Disney+ streams MGM+ originals in certain regions, Crave in Canada, and Stan in Australia. You may still see seasons 1–3 on MGM+, Hulu (US), and other regional platforms.
As Bumpy Johnson battles Frank Lucas, a growing rival seeking dominance of Harlem's heroin trade, the storyline of Season 4 is dramatized for dramatic effect but based on facts. Amid all this societal upheaval, Elise Johnson's radicalization leads her to the Black Panther Party, where Afeni Shakur is vital.
The season explores institutional racism, labor strikes (like the union conflicts in Episode 4), and the interactions between crime, politics, and community empowerment. The executive music producer for Season 4 is Grammy-winning producer Swizz Beatz. In a debut collaboration with Jadakiss, Swizz Beatz, and Pusha T, the opening song "Danger Danger" emphasizes the high-stakes story of the season.
"Godfather of Harlem" Season 4 will continue to investigate the cultural and criminal landscapes of 1960s New York City by mixing factual film with artistic license, hence preserving a genuine portrayal of the era.
Though it has a wonderful lead performance by Forest Whitaker and a supporting ensemble spanning fact and fiction, the show questions power, legacy, and resistance. Starting on April 13, 2025, MGM+ will provide 10 weeks of high-drama stories for viewers to enjoy.
